AZL opens up on lightweight processes

Earlier this month, the nine partner institutes of the AZL opened the doors of their machinery halls and research labs to provide an insight into development capacities in the field of lightweight production and composites.

At the RWTH Aachen campus, AZL presented the ‘iComposite 4.0’ self-optimising process chain: fibre spraying – dry fibre placement – adaptive RTM.
More than 100 participants from external companies as well as from the AZL network were able to experience updates on the latest lightweight production technologies and equipment. As well as plastics and composite materials, content included production technology, quality assurance, lightweight design, automotive production, and multi-material systems and process integration.

Mazak celebrates 10 years of success with ETC

Yamazaki Mazak will celebrate a decade of success for its European Technology Centre (ETC) in 2019.

The state-of-the-art facility, which is located at Mazak’s European manufacturing plant in Worcester, first opened its doors in 2009, and has since hosted in excess of 33,000 visitors. The 2900 sq m ETC is home to a regularly changing line-up of CNC machine tools and laser processing machines from Mazak’s portfolio, and is often the first place in the UK where customers can view new models once they have been launched. A 97-seat auditorium and demonstration area is also housed within the ETC.

Matsuura open house

The dates for the Matsuura Machinery open house in Coalville have been named as 14-15 and 22-23 May, when the company will also open its new showroom and dedicated Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF).

Katsutoshi Matsuura, president of Matsuura Machinery Corp, will officially open the showroom and AMF on 14 May. Visitors to the open house will see a range of Matsuura’s CNC machine tools on show, including five-axis models. The AMF will be hosting live demonstrations on the HP 540 and HP 4200 Multi-Jet Fusion 3D printers.

Mazak inspires next generation of engineers

Yamazaki Mazak reaffirmed its commitment to the next generation of engineers with a third consecutive appearance at the ‘Get Up To Speed with STEM (GUTS)’ event, held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham last month.

Mazak took the opportunity to showcase the latest generation of its Smooth CNC via an interactive simulated control panel. To encourage engagement with the young audience, the company offered students the opportunity to solve an interactive puzzle on the CNC while wearing visual-assisted glasses and earpieces. Furthermore, participants could speak directly with a Mazak engineer based
at the company’s European headquarters in Worcester to help them solve the puzzle.

Showroom clearance at XYZ Slough

XYZ Machine Tools is opening the doors of its Slough showroom on 22 May for a clearance day, which means there will be bargains and deals to be done on all existing stock to make way for new machines to be put on display.

Doors open at 09:00 and there is no requirement to register attendance. Machines will be available for demonstration prior to sale.
“These clearance days provide us with the opportunity to renew our showroom stock, while at the same time offering some exceptional deals to our customers on ex-demo machines,” says Nigel Atherton, managing director of XYZ Machine Tools. “Stock is limited on showroom models, but we are happy to talk to anyone who misses out on the day about new machines, which are held in stock at our Devon headquarters.”
