From large primary circuit reactor components standing at 4 m in height and 5.5 m in diameter, to machined and welded assemblies of up to 100 tonnes in weight, Goodwin International is able to manufacture a multitude of large, high-specification components.
As a result of the size and the demanding dimensional tolerances of many components, the company makes use of one of the largest capacity CMMs in the UK. However, given the problems associated with transporting large, heavy workpieces to

When the order books closed, just before the Christmas break, Mills had taken orders for 440 new Doosan machines during the past 12 months and delivered 431 machines in the same period. The success is being attributed to the latest machine tool introductions and an exceptional MACH 2018 exhibition, combined with continued growth in demand for large-capacity Doosan machines and turnkey solutions.

The three recent clearance events held at XYZ Machine Tools’ Blackburn, Sheffield and Nuneaton showrooms have generated significant business, with order values across the three days reaching £1.8m. In addition to deals being made on existing showroom stock, visitors to the events took the opportunity to place orders for a variety of machines from XYZ’s range.

“The early bird really does catch the worm at one of our clearance events,” says managing director Nigel Atherton. “However, those arriving throughout the day also had the opportunity to receive some incredible deals on anything from a manual lathe through to a UMC-5X five-axis machining centre.” The level of orders and additional enquiries taken at the events confirms the positive 2018 already reported by XYZ Machine Tools, which has seen growth in excess of 25% compared with 2017.
