On stand G210 at Southern Manufacturing, Renishaw will show its enhanced surface finish measurement probe (SFP2) for use on the company’s Revo-2 five-axis measurement system.

Combining surface finish measurement and dimensional inspection on the CMM presents advantages over traditional inspection methods requiring separate processes. The Renishaw Equator flexible gauge will also be demonstrated and is now offered with IPC (intelligent process control) software, providing the functionality to fully automate tool offset updates in CNC manufacturing processes.

Measured performance

Aberlink will be demonstrating the company’s most recently launched CMM on stand L230 at Southern Manufacturing.

The Xtreme CMM features a non-Cartesian structure and makes use of linear motors and mechanical bearings – a configuration that Aberlink says ensures the retention of accuracy at very fast measurement rates and avoids the accumulative inaccuracies that occur in conventional three-axis Cartesian arrangements. Also on the stand will be Aberlink’s Axiom Too CMM.

Virtual machining with HyperMill

At Southern Manufacturing, Open Mind Technologies is set to exhibit its NC code-based HyperMill Virtual Machining Centre machine simulation for the first time in 2018 on stand D225.

The company will also offer show visitors a demonstration of HyperMill version 2018.1 and the HyperMill Maxx Machining performance package. With its HyperMill Virtual Machining Centre, Open Mind has developed a solution that uses the NC code after the post-processor run as the basis for the simulation. This ensures that the virtual machine movements correspond exactly to the real machine movements.

For simple and complex components

Hurco will be exhibiting two of its most popular and compact entry-level machines on stand G200 at Southern Manufacturing.

The VM5i three-axis machining centre will make its show debut, offering a specification that provides full machining centre performance, despite being able to fit into a space that is less than 2 m in height, depth and width. Some 8,000 rpm and 7.5 kW of power from the spindle, plus a 16-station automatic tool changer are provided. Additionally, the latest, updated XP version of the TM8i lathe will be shown, the new version of which boasts a more compact footprint and bigger spindle bore.

Five-axis hybrid machine on display

Yamazaki Mazak is set to showcase the latest addition to its five-axis range of hybrid machining centres on stand J220 at Southern Manufacturing.

The Variaxis j-600/5X AM, which made its European debut at EMO last year, employs a wire-arc AM (additive manufacturing) head on a five-axis vertical machining centre to enable high-speed additive and subtractive manufacturing on one combined platform. The wire-arc AM torch is mounted on the machine’s headstock to deposit material layer-by-layer and grow near-net-shape 3D forms. Material is deposited quickly due to the use of wire instead of metal powder.
Mazak’s Variaxis j-600/5X AM makes use of a 12,000 rpm main spindle and wide B-axis spectrum of rotation (+90° to -120°). The machine is equipped with a rigid structure, utilising roller linear guides on all linear axes and roller gear cams on both rotary axes.
