Taking the spotlight is the Sodick ALC600P ‘i Groove + Edition’, which the company says marks a significant leap in wire EDM by combining high-speed processing with energy-efficient operation. This award-winning machine features several innovative elements that establish new sector standards, including Sodick’s iGroove patented wire rotation technology that spins the wire during cutting to improve precision, performance, wire stability and surface finish – all while reducing wire consumption by up to 30%.

New MACH bed mills offer performance and value

MACH Machine Tools (20-110) says its new MACH MDM 700-AR and MACH MDM 1000-AR CNC bed mills provide customers with exceptional cutting performance, guaranteed life-long precision, built-in flexibility and reliability at a cost that “will make your jaw drop and the guys in accounts smile”. Both machines feature BT 40 spindles (5000 rpm), roller-type linear guideways and large worktables (up to 1525 x 350 mm for the larger MDM 1000-AR). The machines deliver positional and repeatable accuracies of 0.006 and 0.003 mm, respectively. MDM 700-AR/MDM 1000-AR machines feature the established DynaPath CNC.

11 machines and three automation systems from Mills

Mills CNC is showing 11 multi-axis and multi-tasking machine tools and three SYNERGi automation systems on stand 19-110. The line-up includes three models from DVF range of simultaneous five-axis machining centres (two DVF 4000 models and a DVF 5000Mk II). The latter is integrated with a multi-level automatic workpiece pallet changer. Making its debut from Mills is the new large-capacity NHP 5000 HMC with linear pallet system. Also on display is a 6” chuck Lynx 2100SYA (Y-axis, sub-spindle, driven tooling) and a 10” chuck/81 mm bar capacity TT2100SYYB twin-turret/twin-spindle turning centre with dual Y axes.

Smarter CNC for smarter machine shops

The theme on Hurco Europe’s 216 m² (19-140) is ‘Smarter CNC for Smarter Shops’, emphasising the ability of these intelligent, intuitive and operator-friendly machines to reduce reliance on specialist programmers. As ever, the manufacturer’s proprietary WinMax software is a primary focus, as it sits at the core of user ability to compress lead times. WinMax bridges the gap between conversational and G-code programming.

Centre stage on the stand is Hurco’s first-ever machine tending cell based on a six-axis industrial robot, offered as a standard package. It comprises a cantilever-design five-axis VC500i machining centre equipped with a Kawasaki PC 25 system. It is the first offering to result from the strategic collaboration between Kawasaki Robotics and Hurco that was announced at the most recent IMTS show in Chicago.

A five-axis machining suitable for all machine shops

Covering a floor space of 240 m², the stand (20-160) of XYZ Machine Tools is shining the spotlight on the new XYZ 400 UMC, a model the company believes will bring five-axis machining capability to every machine shop. Highlights include the machine’s 400 mm tilt/rotary table driven with Japanese gear cam mechanism, integrated 25.7 kW chilled spindle and 800 x 600 x 510 mm travel.

One of the key features of this high-precision machining centre is how easily it converts from a 4+1 multi-face capable machine to a five-axis simultaneous solution. This is achieved by upgrading to the Siemens Sinumerik One control with 22” touchscreen and Shopmill conversational software. Also new from XYZ is the KMX 2500 bed mill with a three-axis version of the KMX control that allows users to program not only X and Y but also the Z axis.
