Laser Scanners Feature High-Speed Ethernet Connectivity

Laser scanners feature high-speed Ethernet connectivity

In an expansion of its dimensional inspection equipment portfolio, CMM manufacturer LK Metrology has launched a new range of Ethernet-enabled laser scanners and complementary technologies designed to improve the speed, efficiency and interoperability of data-intensive metrology tasks.

The non-contact sensors support automated dimensional inspection and 3D surface digitisation, enabling manufacturers to inspect complex freeform surfaces, intricate features and delicate components more rapidly than with traditional touch-probe techniques. The new range comprises the LC15DX, L100NX and SLK25 line scanners, together with the XC65DX and XC65DXLS cross scanners, all manufactured by LK Metrology.

Despite the move to high-speed Ethernet communication, the scanners retain the same high-performance specifications as previous SDI (Serial Digital Interface) models, delivering identical measurement accuracy while providing modern data transmission capabilities suited to digitally connected production environments.

The launch also includes an intelligent sensor interface controller, available in both 19-inch rack-mount and desktop formats. The controller enables LK laser scanners to be retrofitted to many popular CMM brands while allowing users to retain their existing machine controller.

Supporting the hardware is LK Metrology’s Focus point cloud inspection software, which automatically compares scanned point cloud data with nominal CAD geometry. Deviations are displayed using intuitive colour maps and graphical reports, enabling fast assessment of feature locations, dimensions and geometric characteristics while helping manufacturers reduce errors, rework and production costs.

Ethernet has now been designated LK Metrology’s preferred connectivity standard and is available across the company’s Altera C, S, M, SF and SL CMM platforms, together with the Maxima and HC90 series. While SDI scanners will remain available for legacy installations, the new Ethernet-enabled range is available worldwide immediately.
