Mills relaunches machine hire initiative

Mills CNC, the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor of machine tools from DN Solutions, has relaunched its ‘Smart Options’ machine tool rental scheme. A new brochure is available to explains the initiative in more detail. Managed and administered by Mills CNC Finance, Smart Options enables manufacturers to acquire a new machine tool from DN Solutions for an initial 12-month rental period. Upon the completion of 12 months, the machine user has options to return the machine, purchase the machine (with previous rental payments refunded), or extend the rental period for a further 12 months.

JCB Students Visit Carfulan Group

The Carfulan Group recently welcomed 30 enthusiastic engineering students from the JCB
Academy to its Advanced Innovation Centre, offering them an opportunity to interact with
the company’s latest technologies. The visit provided an immersive, hands-on experience
with machines from across the group’s divisions, giving students an insight into the modern
world of engineering and manufacturing.
The day was structured to provide maximum learning value via interactive demonstrations
and practical sessions. By fostering close ties with educational institutions like the JCB

Precision Micro wins powertrain contract

Precision Micro, a global provider of chemically etched components, has successfully
secured a series production contract with a renowned German multinational engineering
and technology company. The company has been chosen as the exclusive supplier for a
function- and safety-critical component used in the hydrogen recirculation blower of next-
generation fuel cell/electric vehicle powertrains.
Precision Micro’s etching process will produce the component, which facilitates the
recirculation of unused hydrogen in a fuel cell system. The component requires chemical
etching to achieve stringent customer requirements for flatness, cleanliness and tight
tolerances, making it the only viable production method.

Bowers Group to Host Open House at UWR

Bowers Group will this week host a metrology open day in collaboration with the University
of Wolverhampton Racing (UWR) team. Taking place on 5 March at the University of
Wolverhampton Telford Campus, the event promises a full day of hands-on workshops, live
demonstrations and previews of connected metrology solutions. The open house will offer
visitors an opportunity to experience the latest advancements in precision measurement
technology, network with industry experts and get an inside look at the university’s
engineering facilities. A racing simulator competition will also take place.

New Alliance Formed to Avert Disaster

A new alliance of engineering and manufacturing firms has been launched in Scotland to
avert looming “economic disaster” and grasp an “Industrial Revolution sized opportunity”
worth hundreds of billions of pounds. Last month, a Scottish Engineering report warned that
the Scottish economy was facing severe economic impact due to the skills crisis and urged
instant remedial action.
The Enginuity Alliance, spearheaded by skills charity Enginuity, is bringing together
interested parties from across the sector to share best practice, generate discussion and
influence policymakers on both sides of the border. At the launch event, chief executive of
Scottish Engineering Paul Sheerin said: “Billions of pounds are at risk if the sector cannot
supply skilled people to service the needs of major projects.”
