xxonMobil has launched ‘The Grease Experts’, an educational video series for industrial operators who want clear and concise answers to technical grease questions. The series features in-house grease experts Chris Decker and Toby Hlade, who are certified lubrication specialists at the Society of Tribologists and Lubricant Engineers (STLE), each with more than 20 years of field experience. Decker and Hlade answer questions sourced from real operators, including those concerning colour, viscosity, consistency and re-greasing frequency. After watching the videos, viewers can submit their own grease questions online.

German president to open EMO 2017

Germany’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier will be opening the EMO 2017 exhibition (18-23 September) in Hanover. “We are absolutely delighted that our head of state will be honouring EMO with his presence, thus affirming the high level of perceived importance accorded to the nation’s industrial sector,” says Carl Martin Welcker, general commissioner of EMO. At the beginning of June 2017, more than 2050 firms from 45 countries had signed up for the show. There are more than 1400 exhibitors from Europe alone, while the number of Asian participants has increased from 21 to 25%.

“This means the current registration status is significantly above the comparable figure for the previous event,” explains Welcker. The opening ceremony is scheduled to last about an hour on 18 September. Besides Steinmeier, Lower Saxony’s prime minister Stephan Weil and CECIMO’s president Luigi Galdabini, will also be speaking.
After this, the German president will be taking
a tour of the exhibition.

EAMTM Conference 2017 gets underway

The EAMTM Conference 2017 kicks off this week, running from Wednesday 28 June until Saturday 1 July 2017, at the Le Dune Resort & Spa in Sardinia. As ever, the mix of business and pleasure begins on Wednesday at 15:00 with a council meeting, followed at 19:30 by the president’s welcome dinner, sponsored by MamachMachinehandel BV. Thursday begins with the annual merchants’ market, which runs from 09:00 to 12:00 and is sponsored by MTI magazine. Lunch follows, after which the various branch meetings begin at 15:00, including those for Benelux, Britain, France, Germany and Scandinavia.

A busy Thursday continues at 16:00 with the EAMTM’s AGM, with dinner scheduled for 19:30. Finally, Friday will see participants visit nearby Castelsardo, a picturesque, historic town on the island’s beautiful northern coast. Members will return in time for the final evening dinner, sponsored by Tayside Machinery, at 19:30.

4% growth

According to the latest market study released by Technavio, the machine tools market in the US is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 4% through to 2021, largely due to the upward trend in automobile sales. “The flexible investment structure, large consumer base, government incentives and advanced technologies are likely to further boost demand for machine tools in the US automotive market during the forecast period,” says Raghav Bharadwaj Shivaswamy, a lead analyst at Technavio for automation research.

Two Thyssenkrupp plants open in China

German multinational conglomerate ThyssenKrupp AG has announced the opening of two manufacturing facilities in Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND), China, a joint venture project with Chinese auto parts manufacturer Fawer Automotive Parts Ltd and the company’s phase 3 camshaft production facility. The event marks the cementing of another partnership between ThyssenKrupp and CND following the earlier establishment of ThyssenKrupp Engine Systems (Changzhou) Co Ltd and ThyssenKrupp Steering System (Changzhou) Co Ltd in the district. The former will be the group’s largest camshaft manufacturing facility in Asia.
